Many people say it’s never too late to start exercising regularly. Apparently, we can trust the truth.
Research published in Frontiers in Physiology says routine running after 50 years of age can still get an ideal body and athletic performance similar to those who start running at a young age.
In this research, researchers analyzed 150 runners with an average age of 68 years.
Researchers categorized the participants into two groups, first those who had been running routinely since young and second, those who had just started running routinely at the age of 50 years.
The researchers not only compared the two groups, but also compared the results of the participants’ analysis with 59 people, average age 73 years who had never exercised.
The result, participants who had just started running since their 50s had a percentage of body fat and leg muscles similar to participants who had started running since they were 18 years old.
In fact, the athletic performance of participants who routinely exercised to run from a young age is similar to those who routinely run since their 50s.
All participants in this research were men who ran intensively for five to six days a week.
The results of this research prove that it is never too late to start running.
Roy Englert, who reportedly only started running since his 60s, managed to break the world record in the 5AT USATF Masters Outdoor Championships marathon for his age group.
He managed to conquer a distance of 5000 meters with a record time of 42:39:23, 8 minutes faster than the previous time record.
He was not even the only runner who managed to conquer the competition.
So, whatever our age is not an obstacle to lazy to exercise. Precisely without exercising, many negative effects we risk getting.
If you are not yet 50 years old, it does not mean you have to wait for that age to start running regularly.
The reason is, research shows the muscle mass of the human skeletal leg has decreased by about 10 percent in a decade, since it’s over 30 years if it’s not routine exercise at all.
