Diabetes is still a disease that has spread to many people. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is divided into 2 types, the first is caused by the inability of the pancreas to form insulin due to genetic abnormalities of damage from birth, thus requiring insulin for life.
“Whereas type 2 is more caused by a lifestyle where too much food containing sugar, so the body’s insulin is not able to control high blood sugar,” said Head of Medical Kalbe Nutritionals Dr. Muliaman Mansyur told detikHealth recently.
Diabetes itself is still incurable until now. Therefore, the best way to handle it is to control blood sugar levels, one of them by applying the 3J method or the Number, Type, and Schedule.
“In diabetics who are controlled with medication or with insulin, doctors usually have informed them to consume foods with the rules and the type and amount and number of schedules that are adjusted to the conditions,” said Dr. Muliaman.
Dr. Muliaman pointed out some foods that can be consumed by people with diabetes such as milk, meat, fat, vegetables and various types of fruits. However, the difference with normal conditions is to reduce the amount, set a schedule, and choose healthier foods.
“Like fruit, do not eat too much sweet fruit. Eating schedule must be regular with a schedule of taking medication or injecting insulin,” he said.
Dr. Muliaman recommends eating patterns for diabetics is to control calories 1500 kcal / day. Choose foods that contain slow-release carbohydrates such as isomaltulose and choose high fiber such as inulin, low cholesterol and high calcium. The eating schedule for diabetics, you should regularly have 3 large meals and 3 small meals or snacks.
“Avoid simple carbohydrates or short chain sugar such as granulated sugar, fruits that are too sweet like sugar cane, mango, durian and high cholesterol foods,” he ordered.
Some suggested food portions from several sources of nutrition for example by filling 1/2 plate with vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, and green beans. Then 1/4 plate again with protein foods (3-4 ounces of fish, poultry, or lean meat). The remaining 1/4 of the next plate with carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, or starchy vegetables.
In addition to implementing regulating nutritional sources, and diet, Dr. Muliaman advised diabetics to routinely consume Diabetasol with the content of vitadigest pro and low glycemic index. Diabetasol is a meal replacement that can be used as an alternative to breakfast and evening snacks with complete nutrition. Each portion is able to meet the calorie needs of 260 kcal.
